Rift Valley region, voted almost to the last man for the Uhuruto duo during the 2013 general elections, that saw jubilee win the elections. This being the deputy president Hon. William Ruto's backyard and jubilee's stronghold, it is understandable why Isaac Ruto has been a headache to Dp Ruto who has the task of ensuring that he delivers the Rift Valley voting bloc. Dp Ruto has been traversing the South Rift section of the Rift Valley region, popularizing Jubilee Party while ensuring that Isaac Ruto's CCM does not gain ground in the region.
This is a more of Goliath - David battle, Dp Ruto is a political heavyweight, with government machinery, a cult-like Kalenjin following, several elected leaders behind him and yes, he is a great political speaker. Isaac Ruto on the other hand, cannot match Dp Ruto's current stature, not by government machinery, and not by elected leaders in his support. Why would Dp Ruto then get worried of Isaac Ruto's ambition to an extent of camping in his backyard with Jubilee top brass politicians?
Simple, Isacc Ruto, has in the recent past been seen to gain ground in the South Rift region of Bomet, Kericho, Narok counties and parts of Nakuru county. This is evident through the various recent rallies and reception he has been accorded during his visits. The visit and crowds may not necessary mean a shift in loyalty but they are a serious concern to Dp because the continuous rallies by Isaac Ruto and his allies at different areas within the South Rift, and the speeches thereafter, may lead to voter apathy and thereby dealing a blow to theJubilee party's quest to get votes to the last man from the area.
This man Isaac Ruto's political operations are unclear as his political calculations. He is now NASA's fifth principal, giving NASA the face of Kenya that it deserved and a return of the PENTAGON.
The Conspiracy;
It could be thought that Mr. Isaac Ruto is Hon. Raila's plan B in NASA. Mr. Raila is one strategic politician. For instance who saw CORD metamorphosizing into NASA? we all agree it was a wise move to have a united opposition, but did you also know that Mudavadi joining CORD and forming NASA, was Raila's master stroke? How? Wiper Party, a key party in CORD coalition, had begun demanding for Support for their candidate Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka citing an agreement that was entered between Mr, Odinga's ODM and Mr. Kalonzo's Wiper during the 2013 general elections. It is understood that Mr. Raila, agreed to support Mr. Kalonzo for 2017 presidential ticket in return for his support in 2013.
Mr. Odinga lost the 2013 elections, he did not get the presidency and hence feels he needs to try his luck again. With Wiper's demands increasing the by day, he was left with only one option, let CORD die a natural death, so it dies with the agreement. He reached out to ANC's, it is understood he promised to support its party chair Hon. Musalia Mudavadi as NASA presidential candidate. This never happened, they agreed to form a technical committee to help them decide on a suitable candidate using scientific and other informed criteria. This too never happened as all Presidential candidates (NASA Principals) failed to adopt the report/findings of the committee, with each principal believing, they are best suited for the flag bearer position.
Hon. Isacc Ruto Conspiracy.
Reports have indicated secret meetings between Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka plus Moses Wetangula have been holding secret meetings with the possibility of supporting each other with the exclusion of Mr. Raila. It is understood that it is at this point, where Mr. Raila decided to reach out to his old Hon. Isaac Ruto to be part of NASA. It was simple to convince Mr. Ruto, with a possibility of losing his governor seat, due to the fierce competition from Jubilee party, he could reap heavily from NASA government. In simple, NASA had more options for him after August than going it alone as Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM).
The conspiracy theorists have indicated that Mr. Isaac Ruto, could be Raila Odinga's secret weapon (Plan B). If the other three principals walk away and deny him the ticket, he could declare ISAAC RUTO TOSHA. Thereby creating a political shift in the already laid down political strategies. What would Ruto TOSHA declaration do?
First, such a declaration would automatically endanger Dp Ruto's position as President Uhuru Kenyatta's running mate, simply because it would be difficult to convince the Kalenjin community to wait for 2022 before they could take power. This is beside the fact that the Kikuyu community, historically does not honor their political pledges. President Uhuru Kenyatta and his team of advisors may want to think twice about having Dp. Ruto as his running mate.
Second, Mr. Odinga knows as a fact that, he commands large voting block even in the backyards of his other co-principals. A combination between him and Mr. Isaac Ruto, him as Isaac Ruto's running mate could give Jubilee a run for their money and probably get him to power. Now, this is why Mr. Odinga is a political genius and nobody can beat him in this game.
Lastly, Mr. Isaac Ruto has the energies, equal to Dp Ruto's, with Raila's charismatic nature and a host of campaign team lead by Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho, ODM could partner with CCM and pull a surprise.
We might just see Hon. Isaac Ruto in statehouse though he has refused such an idea. No politician is honest, especially on political moves. Do you think Gov. Isaac Ruto can refuse Baba's backing to become Kenya's fifth President? No, because, even if he does not win the presidency, chances are he will become the chief opposition leader thereby giving him the visibility and placing him among the top political brass in the country.
