THE wonderful Kenyan Innovations !

Why do we have to read and be taught about Europe Innovations and models of operations and nothing is documented to that magnitude from the Kenyan environment?
For instance, why do I need to read more about Tesla, Facebook, Amazon, Alibaba, Uber, Airbnb, etc., and less of Mpesa, Roy Allela’s Smart Gloves, Richard Turere’s Lion Lights, and The i-Cut app by Kenyan Highschoolers?
Take the example of Tesla, the world believes that they are the innovators of solar tiles.
While in truth, Kenyan sibling duo, Charity Wanjiku, and Tony Nyaga of Strauss energy birthed their Solar Tiles Invention in the late 1990s after Kenyans experienced a 16-hour power blackout. Their production began in 2013 for obvious reasons such as zero commitment from govt to support start-up ideas.

A decade later in October 2016, Elon Musk announced his solar tiles. However, today the world hears less of Charity and Tony's solar tiles but more of the ones by Elon Musk. - I just don't understand!
Now take a look at the Kenya Association of Manufacturers and rapper Juliani's Dandora Hip Hop City's taka bank idea. Why is it not getting the limelight and support across the board? If it had begun in Europe, it could have been embraced worldwide and even here in Kenya.
Taka Bank kiosks serve as collection stations for waste in Nairobi’s informal settlements. The trash is then sorted by youths (10 youths per taka bank) for recycling at a fee. Such a great idea for youth empowerment and waste management.

What are we not doing right?

Is it because our innovations are less adopted? No, Mpesa had one of the best Innovation Adoption strategies, though locally.
Or its because we do not have enough resources to grow our inventions?

Top samples of Kenyan innovations

SOLAR TILES: They work in such a way that they can produce power that can completely sustain a modern household without the need for a secondary power source. Buy them for your homes.
LAIKIPIA BJ-50S: We have Kenyan made cars from Laikipia County, the BJ-50s, they have been given their number plates, one goes for 450K the last time I checked. Buy them!
THE TAKA BANK: you are encouraged to make good use of them. Simply go to taka online portal known as Customer Bora and request to have your garbage to be collected at a fee. Alternatively, homes can ask on their mobile phones to deposit their waste in the taka banks themselves.
THE SMART GLOVES: that turn sign language into speech by Roy Allela. It consists of a pair of smart gloves that capture sign language gestures and a companion mobile application that translates the sign language gestures to speech. Buy one today for that deaf person.
Now, we can make good use of these wonderful innovations and penetrate our neighboring countries with them.

Mind Games. Just Who Is In Charge? ~ Diaries!

My Diaries 1. Author: Bree.K From my diaries, about Mind Games, and how the modern gal and the modern dude wanna control each other... Let me get this right, so what’s bae? Is it an acronym that stands for ‘ before anyone else ’ or the shortened version for baby or babe? (according to google). This word lost meaning to me after my last encounter in a  situation-ship , lol, let me just say the last encounter with a guy I shared most of my teenage memories with. (You know those stupid happy lovey lovey moments, when you are this hot high school gal, that every Tom, Dick & Harry is yearning for?) Story for another day... to be continued ... Back to mind games and I stand to be corrected; I don’t think anyone in my generation still believes in marriage...(Can't believe I just said that) Dating has to be the sweet-bitter experience, yes we hang out, take selfies with the magic selfie-stick, post them on instagram, create love stories with them on  snap chat ,...

At My Pace, At My Time...

At My Pace, At My Time! No sweetheart, am never ever going to settle for anything less, I know my worth and am not ready to settle down with someone just because you think am becoming of age and end up spending the rest of my life being miserable. That is the reply I always give to one my best friend who always nags me to get a man and l start dating.     She is just barely twenty four years old and you can be surprised how she is so sure that by the time she will be my age, she will be married and almost popping out her first born. I always shake my head, if only she knew how cruel love is, it is not that simple as she tends to think. You see, am twenty seven years old, in four months’ time, I will be turning twenty eight years old. The African custom has always dictated that once a lady hits the age of twenty five, she should be gearing up for marriage. Dare you get to your thirties and you still single, the looks you get when you go for the get togethe...

Listen to Them If You Have To, But Be Sober!!

A Happy Family! "...I will do all I can to keep my family intact.." a colleague once told me . So on this day we are out for lunch, me paying for a promise of lunch. As we discuss other issues, this topic of recent rise in cases of domestic violence and marriage break- ups, comes up. Several marriages are breaking up at a supersonic speed and the main course being one. Mpango Wa Kando (Side Chic/dude), .. A story is told of a friend who swore never to get married again after she found out that her man, her husband a believer had been keeping a side chic for the 2 years of their marriage. That must be painful eh?! On confrontation, the man blames the chic for tempting and seducing him.. (this must be the joke of the year). Listening to my colleague narrate the story as she curses and swears to do all she can in her powers to keep her marriage intact, I suddenly get lost in my wonder world wondering what is becoming of the institution of marriage. Just why can...
