Pictorial Representation of Natalie's
Week
It is yet another week and all prospects health wise look really great. I have had one of the best weeks and I do thank God for this. I however had an experience this week that I thought I would share; it made me have a terrible headache on one of the days this week. It also taught me a lesson on never to judge people by the cover.

So this day am walking home from work and I hear someone calling me from behind “excuse me, excuse me’ normally I never respond to such calls because I always say if you know me you will call me by my name. So I keep walking, I increase my pace just so that the guy does not catch up with me. I’m so delighted to see my gate and I open it so quickly until one of my plot mates wonders “ Eeee Nat, I almost dashed to my house because I thought we are being robbed in daylight”. I smile to that comment and I excuse myself by saying   “ Aaaaa some crazy guy here disturbing my peace”.

I’m so tired this day because I had kind of overworked my head, I ate my supper and slept early.
The next day is just like any other days; you know the normal usual routines of waking up, taking a shower, taking breakfast and setting off to work. I hate routines and I must admit I’m not a morning person, not that I’m an evening person either hehehe, but I just hate doing the same things over and over again and in the same routine. I remember when I was a little girl I would take a shower in the mornings, at least that’s what my mother had made us do, so I got tired and I changed to taking shower in the evening, apply oil, put on my socks so that in the morning I would just “Chomoka” with no hustle. One day my mother discovered this and I was given the thrashing of my life.

Anyway so this day I come back home as usual, and just when I’m about to start eating I hear a knock at the door. I open the door and there is this guy whom I have never seen in my life, he goes…..   “Hi, I just wanted to great you, I saw you passing by and I thought I would say Hi”, strange very strange was my first reaction, no one and absolutely no one had ever had the guts to walk to my place to just say Hi. You see I’m this kind of a “still waters” kind of person, very quiet and not very social so it really takes someone with courage to approach me because you just never know the kind of reaction that you would get from me. I’m taken aback and for the first time I lack words, I think I looked stupid. The guy leaves when he notices that I probably was not going to say anything….. end of day one.

The next day almost at the same time, I get the knock again. I peep at my window and Lol, it’s the same guy. This time it’s not funny anymore. I’m pissed and scared so I call my neighbor who comes to my rescue but just when he arrives at my door the guy had already left. My neighbor, a dude for that matter tells me to call him immediately if he comes again the next day. At this point I’m thinking to myself “ Oh dear, if I was married I would not be going through this , I would at least have someone to defend me, so I tell myself, Nat, it’s about time you should be thinking about marriage”
The shock that I got from that episode was not one of the best things that should have happened because immediately my head starts to ache. The pain is so severe that I could not bear standing or bending down. I had not cooked my supper and I knew that I would sleep on a hungry stomach that day. I remember I just sat on my couch for the longest time. Feeling my pain and praying to God that it goes away. After half an hour the pain reduces and I manage to cook something, eat and sleep with the hope that I would wake up feeling better, I did….end of day two.

The next day at the same time I get again the knock at my door. This time after the first knock I hear my neighbor’s wife opening her door. “ Hey who are you, that lady is not in, and do you know that that lady is married, why do you keep coming here every day, are you a thief, do you want to come ad steal from this place, are you just surveying the area, do you know we can kill you, if you do not want us to call the police on you, leave this place and never come back again” The guy is asked so many questions that he does not have time to even respond to any. Other neighbors also join in since this other lady was very loud, they castigates him and literary carry him out of the plot….heeeeee drama. All this time I’m in my house because ‘ si’ I can’t come out because the neighbor says I’m not in.  The guy gets the most embarrassing ‘thrashing’ of his life’, after this I’m almost 100 percent sure that he would not be coming back…end of day three.

The next day on my way back from work, I meet the guy and I almost think of running away because imagine I would be getting his wrath. He stops me and goes “The other day I came to see you I did not mean no harm, you should not have told your neighbors that I’m a thief. I just saw you, liked you and I thought we would just be friends. You see I have just cleared high school and I really don’t have friends around here, we just moved here from Nairobi (that explains the hip hop look and kind of dressing that he had), I’m sorry if I scared you  or something but I promise I will not be bothering you again”. I remember thinking to myself “Jeez he just cleared high school, how kids these days grow so fast, he is so huge and big”. Long story short I told him I’m way out of his league and that I’m kind of seeing someone at the moment.

Walking home I realized that I had judged him harshly and too soon. He was just an innocent lonely soul who had just cleared school and was looking for some kind of acceptance and belonging. I kind of pitied him with the backlash that he had received from my plot mates. They made him look like a thief. This made me think of how this relates to many of us. We never take the time to know people before we jump into conclusions about them based on their mode of dressing, the way they speak, the way they handle issues. We are quick to have a mindset of people even before we know where they are coming from. Do not be too quick to judge anyone before you know their story. They may just be as good as you never thought they were.
